A Walk in the Park- Langan Park, aka Municipal Park, Mobile, AL

I have fond, although distant, pre-school memories of when my mother would  take me to Municipal Park to feed the ducks or play on the swings or to have lunch at one of the many pick-nic tables in the sunshine. It was a great place to visit as a kid, and I have discovered that it still is a great place for kids and adults alike. Please join me for a photo tour of a few of the many interesting things to see and to experience in this beautiful old city park.

Convenient access to good parks such as this one can play a major role in your quality of living and should be among the many considerations that go into your choice of a place to live.

The main entrance is located on Zeigler Blvd just west of Forest Hill Drive.

To the best of my recollection this jet was placed in the park sometime in the 1970's. My dad used to say it was a trainer but I don't know for sure. If you have any historical information please let me know so I can post it here.

Come get some exercise! There are numerous walkways and trails throughout the park.

This is an immature American Anhinga which is a sleek bird that hunts fish by diving and swimming underwater. It is not unusual to see these interesting birds in the area rivers and lakes with only their head and snakelike necks above the surface.

The Amphitheater is a wonderful place to enjoy a concert.

The pavilion located next to the museum. I was a little jealous that I wasn't invited to the party! These kids were dancing and having a great time. You could plan a little quality time here too.

Very nice David. I enjoyed the pictures very much. Lots of memories. That’s where I fell in the lake trying to pet a baby duck. Lol.

Lots of lovely memories at that park. Do you remember when you turned our canoe over? I was not happy with you!

Thanks Kathy. I don’t really remember that, we were probably pretty young at the time, but it does sound like something I would do! I guess we all ended up in that murky water at one time or another.

Carla, that’s a good question but I don’t know the answer. I don’t recall ever seeing a wedding take place there but I feel certain that the amphitheater or the pavilion near the museum could be reserved for a wedding. There is contact info for the city parks department here: http://www.cityofmobile.org/parks/
The Mobile Botanical Gardens next door may be another possibility. Glad you liked the pictures. BTW, if you are getting married your gonna need a home and I can help with that! Thanks and congratulations! David
